CDF Freedom School(r) Program 2009 marked the unveiling of our partnership with the Children's Defense Fund. Last summer the Foundation sponsored the CDF Freedom School (r) Program - the first of its kind in the state of Nevada. The success of the project was the direct result of our collaboration with UNLV's College of Education to provide the opportunity for 50 children to participate in a 6 week educational enrichment program through a model curriculum supporting children and families. The program integrates five essential components: academic enrichment, parent & family involvement, civic engagement & social action, intergenerational leadership development and health & wellness for a well rounded program of activities during summer recess.
Rainbow Dreams Academy Charter School opened its doors to 52 students in grades K-2 in August of 2007. By the end of the first year of operation, the enrollment tripled and the third grade was added. The primary focus of the Academy is to work with the “at risk” and underserved population as defined by state statutes. By providing a firm educational foundation that celebrates diversity and cultural appreciation, the Academy has developed a set of core values and principles that emphasize the importance of academics while offering support in self definition to each student. This foundation is supported by a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to the educational success of each child.
